\"Mariano's<\/a>In response to the many readers who asked to visit some of the sites described in my historical novel, we took the first Mariano\u2019s Crossing Tour on\u00a0Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Sylvan Dale Ranch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Twenty-eight readers joined\u00a0 the tour.\u00a0 More wanted to come, so I’ll be scheduling another tour sometime in September.\u00a0 Stay tuned!<\/p>\n

The event began with breakfast in the old ranch building that still houses, behind the current walls, the remains of the original Alexander homestead dugout in the riverbank.\u00a0 The tour ended with a bag lunch on Red Ridge, the novel\u2019s imagined location of John Alexander\u2019s hideout and Lena\u2019s secret grave.\u00a0 In between, we visited the Medina cemetery and the site of Mariano’s Crossing on the Big Thompson River.<\/p>\n

8:00 AM.\u00a0 Breakfast in historic Sylvan Dale Dining Room.<\/p>\n

8:45 AM.\u00a0 Walking tour of William Alexander Homestead, including the location of the original riverbank dugout inside the ranch kitchen, the original bridge supports, old barn, main ranch grounds, Indian tipi rings, and view of Mt. Alexander.<\/p>\n

9:30 AM.\u00a0 Historic photo slide presentation at Wagon Wheel Bunkhouse.<\/p>\n

10:00 AM.\u00a0 Depart for driving tour, car caravan to the Old Canyon, Boothroyd Graveyard, Weldon School ruins, Dry Creek, Marianna Butte, Medina Cemetery, and Mariano\u2019s Crossing near Namaqua Park.<\/p>\n

11:30 AM.\u00a0 Red Ridge (hikers and 4-wheelers only).<\/p>\n

12:00 Lunch on Red Ridge at the \u201cHideout\u201d overlooking the river valley below, or at Namaqua Park.<\/p>\n

1:00 PM\u00a0 Tour ends.<\/p>\n
